Counting the cost of good health

Little Ludwin is a picture of health.
And ensuring our children are happy and healthy is our top priority,
Money can't buy happiness, but in Kenya it is an essential to keeping healthy!
If you can't pay for hospital treatment  you just won't get well.
With 109 children living at home with us we know that. just as in any more conventional family, the unexpected happens and a child may need hospital treatment any time.
Accidents and illness happen, and with our children, where in many cases we have no family health history, their may be some inherited condition that may rear its head.
Mama has been advised to contribute to the National Hospital Insurance Fund , which  is the primary provider of health insurance in Kenya with a mandate to enable all Kenyans to access quality and affordable health services.
This means that should a child require hospital treatment, the cost is covered.
It also covers comprehensive maternity and CS (Caesarean) package, which means the tragic teenage girl, pregnant when she came into our care recently, will be able to access the best care at a fraction of the price it would have been.
Proposed benefits will also include out-patient care, diagnostics and treatments, including medicines and a range of other services.
After some shrewd negotiations we have been offered cover for all our children for £38 a month.
That is another £38 a month that we will have to add to our monthly outgoings, but we feel that for the peace of mind it will give and the benefits it provides it will be money well spent.
If you would like to contribute to the cost of NHIF or know any business or organisations we could approach to sponsor the cost please email elizabethgomm@childrenofwatamu.net
